What is Anti-Palestinian Racism?
Understanding & Challenging Anti-Palestinian Racism

Anti-Palestinian racism is a form of racism that “silences, excludes, erases, stereotypes, defames or dehumanizes Palestinians or their narratives”. It obscures Palestinian perspectives and creates barriers to building community across racial and religious lines.
The Institute for Understanding Anti-Palestinian Racism conducts research and provides education on how this form of racism impacts both Palestinians and non-Palestinians alike. A 2024 study uncovered alarming rates of discrimination against students and educators who support Palestinian human rights including silencing, harassment, physical threat or harm or defamation, leading to over 75% experiencing considerable emotional and/or physical health effects. The majority of respondents identified as White, Black, Latino or Asian. In addition, the majority of respondents identified as Christian, Jewish, Buddhist, Hindu, or no religion, indicating that this form of racism affects individuals regardless of their ethnicity or religious background.
When we understand how Anti-Palestinian racism functions, we can avoid the common pitfalls and roadblocks to listening to marginalized voices, ending oppressive systems, and building stronger community bonds.
